Farewell to Pete, our drummer - September 20, 2009

We had a great day at the Michaelmas Fayre in Gosport yesterday, organised by the Gosporteers http://www.gosporteers.org.uk

Sadly it was our last gig with Pete Isbell who has to leave us due to unforeseen circumstances.

He has been a valued member of the band for the past year and we have played no less than eight gigs with him which equates to about 3000 people, as well as enjoying some studio time in the Solent University.

We will miss his sense of humour and great timing and wish him all the best for the future.

Rehearsals and things - June 5, 2009

We had a rehearsal on Tuesday and wow what glorious weather it was. The thermometer was reading 30 in the shade. Dave and Pete decided to cool off a bit in the paddling pool.... Dave & Pete in the pool_resized They had wanted to go on the trampoline as well but it had to be pointed out that they were a bit too big for it... Only a bit...

We did not get started till a bit later than intended but hey... who knows how long the sun will shine for. We did go through all the tracks for the Lords Hill Kite Festival for the 21st of June and its shaping up very nicely indeed.

Quantcast We all had a listen to the tracks that the students recorded and we came to the conclusion that its not quite mixed yet. There is a bass line on there that Jerry did not play, Pete sounds as if he is in a bathroom ( or paddling pool ), my vocals have no re-verb and there have been added backing vocals at the end of the track that were not originally intended to be there.

I have tried to contact them on this but so far ..no joy... With a bit of luck we will do it again and get a decent mix. ' Onwards & Upwards' eh?

Onwards & Upwards is here - May 25, 2009

One of my latest tracks has been recorded. It is a slightly melancholy track in 6/8 time and has a folk/pop feel to it.
I am really pleased with the harmony vocals I put on and Dave, Jerry and Pete don't sound bad either.
'Onwards & Upwards' is now available to hear at http://www.myspace.com/fullfacerecords This is the track we recorded for the Students at the Southampton Solent University back in Febuary.
We also recorded a cover of the Korgi's track 'Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime' which can also be heard.
Hopefully I will shortly get the tracks so I can put them on here.
Let me know what you think

New gigs - May 11, 2009

New gig listings up and visible for the 11th July and 8th August on the calendar page.
Now rehearsing like mad and sorting out set lists.
I have 2 hour long sets to sort out and 3 X 30 min sets to sort so far.
Great fun.. I will probably write some new songs just to put a spanner in the works..

Sites, Gadgets and Widgets - April 28, 2009

Having spent a long time finding websites for music promotion, tools, gadgets and widgets, it amazes me how much there is for artists to promote themselves, even if there is a limited budget or no budget at all.

It is very time consuming to find sites that actually work for an artists promotion, and it can be quite frustrating as well.

Yesterday, having loaded up songs that took most of the day ( my computer works at a snails ) to a certain website, I found to my horror that they would charge me to have my music listened to. I had to sign up to them to be able to read this small 'small print'.

At least I have not parted with any cash on that site and from now on I will be more careful than I had been.

Three years ago I started having pages on websites, I had about three and no computer know how at all. My official website was pants ( for want of a better word ) and I could not afford a better one at the time so I concentrated on other sites for promotion.

I was not that good at it and I learned through a lot of mistakes, and empty pages and wasted time. Now there is a lot more choice and easier, more powerful tools.

I can sync one site to another, update on one site and it will do it on all the others, still directing traffic to my new official site. Now I am a lot more confident in promoting the music.

The fact that there are tools to help me for free makes the whole process of brain to pen to voice to performance very worthwhile.

It has been hard work and I am not great at this computer stuff, but I know a lot more now than I did, and I am pleased that the music is being played and appreciated, and we are getting quite a few gigs coming in because of it.

Thank You to all those great free sites!!

All the links to these helpful sites are on the links page.

I hope this helps other artists and if there are any questions or other great sites not mentioned, please let me know.

We are sorting out the set list for next weeks gig at the Swan Inn, Woolston on 24th, should be great.

We have a meeting in May about the JT Festival coming up in around August that we are going to play. More details soon.

Finally, we have a musicians page on Facebook, it took all day to sort out but its there. Its not as exciting as this site though, this is much better!!

fair play for creators: pledge your support now!, click here
This is came through to me yesterday and concerns all musicians and music fans alike.
Lets stop this theft!!

Dear member

We're writing to keep you updated on the Google story. As you will know, Google took the decision to remove premium music content from YouTube. This action was taken while we were negotiating with Google for the renewal of their licence for YouTube, and without any need for them to do so.

We are continuing our negotiations with Google over online royalties payable for the use of your music on their YouTube service and will continue to keep you updated on the situation.

Since we first emailed you two weeks ago, we have received many comments and messages of support and many members took part in our online poll, the results of which we’ll have shortly.

It is great to know that so many of you care about the deeper issues raised by Google’s action and want to help in any way possible.

Because of this overwhelming response, we have created a dedicated website for all songwriters and composers within the UK to show their commitment, pledge their support and help focus attention on the need for online businesses to pay a fair amount for the music content they use.

Please visit the site at fairplayforcreators.com and pledge your support today.

Best wishes
